Widget is commonly referred to a desktop widget or a web widget. Although both versions sound very similar, both are very different and used for different purpose. Simple difference is that the desktop widget stays on the PC desktop and it does not require any browser to open whereas web widget is one of the components of a website or web page and it requires a web browser to open. A web widget is normally referred to a piece of code that is used in a blog or website. Four places where web widget used are blogs, websites, social networking profiles, and personalized pages. In blogs, widgets are very helpful in providing personalized feelings and advanced features for the visitors. In websites and personalized pages, widgets improve the productivity and also add some fun to the visitors. Most people use web widgets in their social networking profiles to tell more about themselves such as their favorite movies, songs, and so on.

A desktop widget is a simple application that runs on desktop. Occasionally, desktop widgets access Internet for retrieving information such as weather or temperature settings. Desktop widgets make the information and tools readily available.

Desktop widgets can be used by installing the widget toolbox as it helps in maintaining the widgets on the desktop. Also, desktop widgets are very easy to move and one has to simply drag the widgets to the new position. Similarly, widgets can be easily added or removed from the desktop.

Are widgets safe to use?

Widgets are everywhere. They can be downloaded onto your desktop, embedded in websites that you visit and used from your phone. You can look up the weather, check out the latest sport scores and stay caught up on the latest headlines from the leading news companies. With direct link to your computer, have you asked yourself if widgets are safe to use? Just like with any Internet product, there are risks. It is just as possible to accidentally download a virus with your widget as you could opening a malicious email.

Whether you are using desktop widgets or web widgets, it is important that you monitor what information you let pass online. You should also have the needed protection on the computer that you are using. Make sure you have a virus and spyware scanner that updates frequently in order to protect your computer from online threats.

It is unclear if widgets alone are unsafe, but there is always a risk of a hacker stealing your personal information whether you are on your Facebook account or checking your email. As with any Internet product, widgets are legit but it is a hacker that could change all of that. Widgets are great to use to stay informed, up-to-day and on task during the day. When you are using widgets, make sure you take the proper precautions and just be careful with what information you give away. If your computer is acting up, quickly run a virus scanner. If you ever feel like something does not seem secure whatever the platform, immediately exit your browser.

Technology has made it easy to get everything you need at your finger tips. You are able to get the email straight to your phone. You can connect to the wireless Internet as long as your phone or computer is able. Technology also gives you the ability to be spooled by giving you applications that will do all of the work to find information over the Internet for you. One way to do that is to use a widget. There are two types of widgets, the first is the desktop widget and the other is the web widget. Before you can decide which widget type is best for you, you need to first know the difference.

The desktop widget can easily be downloaded from the Internet on a widget gallery to your desktop. There are widgets available for everything you love to do and every website you love to visit online. Desktop widgets access the Internet and get the information you need for you.

The web widget works a little different. Instead of being an application, the web widget is a code that is embedded on a website or blog. Instead of having all of the information on your desktop, you go to the website where the widget download. There can look at the information. Widgets are usually on personal websites, blogs or social network sites to make the website more interesting.

Whatever widget you enjoy using, you still receive information from it but in different ways. Web widgets can be easier to access from other computers. For desktop widgets, you have to be on your computer in order to use your widgets.
