Widget is commonly referred to a desktop widget or a web widget. Although both versions sound very similar, both are very different and used for different purpose. Simple difference is that the desktop widget stays on the PC desktop and it does not require any browser to open whereas web widget is one of the components of a website or web page and it requires a web browser to open.
