Widget is commonly referred to a desktop widget or a web widget. Although both versions sound very similar, both are very different and used for different purpose. Simple difference is that the desktop widget stays on the PC desktop and it does not require any browser to open whereas web widget is one of the components of a website or web page and it requires a web browser to open. A web widget is normally referred to a piece of code that is used in a blog or website. Four places where web widget used are blogs, websites, social networking profiles, and personalized pages. In blogs, widgets are very helpful in providing personalized feelings and advanced features for the visitors. In websites and personalized pages, widgets improve the productivity and also add some fun to the visitors. A desktop widget is a simple application that runs on desktop. Occasionally, desktop widgets access Internet for retrieving information such as weather or temperature settings. Desktop widgets make the information and tools readily available.

There are two types of widgets, the first is the desktop widget and the other is the web widget. Before you can decide which widget type is best for you, you need to first know the difference.

The desktop widget can easily be downloaded from the Internet on a widget gallery to your desktop. There are widgets available for everything you love to do and every website you love to visit online. Desktop widgets access the Internet and get the information you need for you.

The web widget works a little different. Instead of being an application, the web widget is a code that is embedded on a website or blog. Instead of having all of the information on your desktop, you go to the website where the widget download. There can look at the information. Widgets are usually on personal websites, blogs or social network sites to make the website more interesting.

Whatever widget you enjoy using, you still receive information from it but in different ways. Web widgets can be easier to access from other computers. For desktop widgets, you have to be on your computer in order to use your widgets.

Desktop Widgets Keep Staring At You

We are all familiar with gadgets, but what are widgets? And didn’t I notice the mention of blidgets somewhere? The dictionaries of the future might be a lot different than what we have today, since new words keep getting coined and added regularly, at least in the English language. The geeks and nerds of tomorrow might be behind most of the new words added to the language, since the realm of computers is under rapid transformation during the present times, and is expected to continue to transform deep into the future.
We all know that a gadget is some simple device in the real world, and this device does some specific task – like a doorbell is a gadget that rings the door bell, a stapler is a gadget that staples pages together, and so on. The world of computers has coined a similar sounding name, widgets, to refer to any device that sits on the computer desktop and performs a simple specific function. A few common examples of widgets could be for time and alarm, or weather, etc.

As desktop widgets become popular with users, more widgets are being regularly created and made available for download. Rankings of widgets are also an ongoing process, which provides good feedback to the creators of widgets about the preferences of the end-users.

As with any download, we must be equally cautious about downloading widgets, and ensure that downloads are done only from a trusted site. Before downloading, we must also read the reviews of the particular widget that we propose to download. Failure to take these precautions might result in downloading some spyware of virus on your computer.

Desktop widgets can be great fun, and add value to our computer usage, provided that we do not download them at random, and carry out a proper study to assess if the particular widget meets our specific requirements.
